Framing Showcase

Below is just a sampling of some of the finished pieces we have done using different framing and finishing techniques. Click on each picture for a larger image.

Brooch

This antique brooch of garnets and diamonds was hand-sewn onto a garnet colored suede mat, and recessed behind a top mat of the same color. The eight-sided top mat opening was embellished with a gold fillet to accent the gold filigree evident in the brooch.

Shawdow Box Uniform

This shadowbox containing World War II memorabilia truly tells a story. The authentic Navy uniform jacket, dog tags and ring were hand-sewn onto a dusk colored suede mat. An opening was cut to showcase the discharge papers, which are archivally mounted. The finishing touch is a photograph of my dad wearing the uniform, taken in 1944, and framed with a gold fillet.

Framed Heirloom Crocheted Doily

The stories I hear about framing projects are the second best part of the business... customers are the best part. And here's a story... this heirloom crocheted doily was completed the night Mrs. Vestal went into labor with her son. And that son's wife had it framed for his 50th birthday! We stitched the piece onto a dark blue suede matboard and floated a circle mat above to give the project some depth. A romantic champagne frame was just the right touch to bring focus to the memories.

Flower Etching

The simple etching was float mounted onto a dutch red linen mat, and given a weighted mat below. A top mat with a v-groove treatment brings focus to the art and is floated above the art to add depth.

Tooth Fairy Piece

An incredible treasure... this letter to the tooth fairy written by my now adult daughter is one of her greatest memories. To bring attention to the theme of the letter we added a fairy decal onto mats of soft green and pink. The finishing touch, which is not evident in the photograph, are sprinkles of fairy dust flowing from the fingers of the tooth fairy princess.

Motorcycle Tags

When the owners of these motorcycles decided to sell them, they wanted a lasting memory of their time spent on the road. This unique matching pair of framed pieces house the tags and photos of the bikes. Using the computerized mat cutter, we cut a compass into one of the mats; and a road that flows out of one frame and into the other. Yellow mat board facing paper was loosened from a mat and glued down to make the center line in the road.

Framed Prints

These complimentary prints were combined into one frame. The antique sienna mat (mottled sienna and gold tones) brings out the warm beauty of the art. A double arched-cut mat highlights the window arches and invites you in for a closer look.

Hardanger and Cross Stitch Sampler

This beautiful piece of Hardanger (cut thread embroidery) and cross stitch is stitched on Belfast linen. The linen was stretched onto a gold matboard to enhance the gold threads stitched into the piece. A notched corner linen taupe mat has been floated above the linen to add depth and interest. An antique gold frame carries the theme of the cut thread embroidery.

Mercedes Logo

These Mercedes symbols were attached to a matboard similar to the color of the demised Mercedes. The customer who had the pieces framed loved his car and wanted a lasting memory of it. A simple black frame completed the job.
